President Letter regarding sulfates

Dear Friends of TRISWIM:
I wanted to reach out to you regarding some confusion and questions that have surfaced about sulfates in shampoos and soaps. There is an ongoing debate about sulfates; are they harmful or are they NOT? The purpose of this letter is to enlighten the consumer about sulfates in personal care products.

First and foremost, we are a society of research.  Whatever we need to know, is at our fingertips, however sometimes this can be a daunting task since there is just SO much information out there and worse…anyone can post it.

Back in the 70's a very large name brand personal care product corporation wanted to separate itself apart for their competitors. How did they do this? This company created a SULFATE-FREE marketing strategy by leading the public to believe that IF their product was FREE of something, then that "something" (SULFATES) must be bad.
Simultaneously, there was a study conducted to back up these statements. This study consisted of placing PURE SULFATE onto test subject’s skin. After several minutes, the skin was revealed showing irritation. What they failed to disclose was that what was placed on the skin was PURE SULFATE!

Many consumers do not even know why Sulfates are used in products; they just say, "Sulfates are bad". Sulfates are used in the majority of soaps and shampoos to pull dirt away from the scalp and to help products lather. The reason you use shampoo is to clean your scalp therefore sulfates are necessary  to effectively clean!  The amount of sulfates in shampoos and soaps are diluted many times over then when you are showering or bathing, water is diluting it even more.
With respect to TRISWIM, yes we have sulfates in our products (remember, the amount is minuet and diluted with bath or shower water) plus we have vitamins A & E, ProVitamin B5, and Aloe Vera! These additives assist in restoring, hydrating and nourishing the hair and skin, plus we have protection for color treated and permed hair. Our products are used by triathletes and swimmers (professional, age groupers and recreational) who constantly give rave reviews. See "testimonials" on www.tri-swim.com. These are not paid or made up comments. These statements were from the heart. One of most credible testimonials is from www.dermadr.com. Every product that is sold on their website must be approved by a panel of Certified Board Dermatologists. TRISWIM is sold on this site.

I met a man the other day at an industry convention and asked him about his sulfate- free products. He said, “Did you know that they clean driveways with sulfates?”  I responded with, “Did you know that Episom Salt is a sulfate and we bathe in it to pull out toxins from the body? Also, people use Coca Cola to remove stains and blood from concrete, clean corrosion off of car batteries, start a compost piles, clean grout, strip dye from hair, remove marine life growth from submarines and my favorite, dissolve  iron nails in just 4 days in a sealed liter of coke! Guess what ??? Everyone ingests Coca Cola! My point is that all everyday products have chemicals in them; they have to in order to work. It is the percentage of a chemical that makes it harmful or obsolete.

Plain and simple, Sulfates pull out dirt from the hair but the amount of sulfates in shampoo and soaps is nothing to be alarmed about especially when it is diluted over and over again. There is another official study that I am attaching... read more. http://www.cosmeticscop.com/skin-care-facts-sodium-lauryl-sulfate-sodium-laureth-sulfate.aspx
There is a very new and inexperienced Chlorine out company who claims that they are "Sulfate Free". Their strategy to compete is to bad mouth TRISWIM, UltraSwim and Malibu, by stating  all of the listed products can cause eye and skin irritation, dandruff by stripping  the essential oils from the scalp, hair loss by damaging the hair follicles and are less expensive and compromise the hair, simply because we have sulfates. I can only speak for TRISWIM, we have never had one complaint of this type of adverse side effect from the TRISWIM products. In addition, this same company is tainting online reviews of our products.  All that we ask is to take a look at the overall response to our product and disregard the few planted reviews.  When you see multiple consecutive positive reviews, then see one random bad review, chances are this is their work. We do not condone this type of business behavior! Instead of focusing on what their product has to offer, they are bashing their competitors in hopes to gain business. My husband came up with this amazing thought... "Competition is naturally human, but sportsmanship comes from the character within the person." I have been involved in triathlon and swimming for a good portion of my life, and have never experienced such poisoning of negativity in our wonderful sport of swimming.

We hold ourselves to very high standards by manufacturing products that consist of the best possible ingredients! All of our products were formulated by an award winning chemist, one who has been in the business for over 30 years with experience in creating high performance salon quality hair and skin care lines.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and I hope that I have eliminated any questions regarding this ongoing Sulfate subject. Should you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to call our office 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday (PST) we would be happy answer any questions you might have and if we do not know the answer, we will find an answer. On a side note, if you would like to sample either TRISWIM and/or FOGGLE, please email you r address to processing@tri-swim.com. You can see for yourself how TRISWIM will make you feel.
